The appearance of American actor Steve Buscemi as an unconvincing undercover private investigator in a sitcom 30 Rock has been a staple for GIF users for years, and this Halloween the Golden Globe winner showed he’s in for a joke with his choice of costume.

English electro-pop artist Little Boots (and performer in upcoming ABBA virtual concerts) chose to reference another sitcom, opting for an ‘H’ front mimicking those worn by the holograms in Red dwarf.

The pre-loved plush toys here to help you

Teddy bears have had a more public role to play in boosting the morale of most people for quite some time now. Here is another way they help.

Nicky Buist and her daughter Jaz Lotz repurposed the toys in the store by weighing them with sand and lacing them with lavender as a calming strategy for overwhelmed children.

Heavier than a normal soft toy, bears and animals mimic how a baby feels to an adult, Lotz says, and encourage a feeling of being nurtured.

Cows in the toilet to fight climate change

First there was the Shewee now … introducing the MooLoo.

Learned control of urinary reflexes in cattle to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, an article published in cellular biology by researchers at the University of Auckland and the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology in Germany suggested a new way to fight global warming: toilet training in cows.

The short version is that the calves were rewarded with a sweet liquid when they urinated in the designated MooLoo pen, and received a light punishment from a spray of water outside that area.

While effective enough for a larger selection of cows, Dr Jan Langbein believes the system means cattle may be able to reduce their pee break to two, or in some cases to just once a day.

Since urine will only be in one place, it will become much easier to collect and process it in a way that minimizes methane emissions.

The parrot and the traffic camera

Cats and dogs probably take up too much of the space of cute animals (although it’s interesting to check out why they reached their high position every furry Friday). This parrot in Brazil records itself with any camera that will have them.
