Latest news updated on February 5, 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Hyderabad on Saturday to inaugurate the 216ft tall “Statue of Equality” commemorating the 11th century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya. “At approximately 2:45 p.m., the Prime Minister will visit the campus of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Patancheru, Hyderabad and launch the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of ICRISAT. At around 5 p.m., the Prime Minister will dedicate the ‘Statue of Equality’ in Hyderabad to the nation,” a press release read. The 216-foot-tall Statue of Equality commemorates the 11th-century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of life, including faith, caste and creed. The statue is made of ‘panchaloha’, a combination of five metals: gold, silver, copper, brass and zync and is among the tallest seated metal statues in the world. It is mounted on a base building 54 feet high, named ‘Bhadra Vedi’, has floors dedicated to a Vedic digital library and research center, ancient Indian texts, a theatre, an educational gallery detailing many works of Sri Ramanujacharya. The statue was conceptualized by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram. Prior to that, the Prime Minister will launch ICRISAT’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Prime Minister.
