Councilor Mike Greene, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and Transportation, BCP Council, said:

“The BCP Board has worked hard to help administrators and private bus companies explore a number of different solutions to protect the ability of our residents and visitors to travel. We are saddened and disappointed that no new owners have been found for the Yellow Buses side of bus operations, despite everyone’s best efforts.

“Following the announcement that Morebus will be stepping up its service delivery from this Saturday, we will now focus our efforts on working closely and comprehensively with Morebus over the coming days. We will also continue to engage with administrators and the government to minimize any longer-term impact on our residents, local businesses and visitors.

“Today is an incredibly sad day for Yellow Buses, its employees and the riders of the buses it serves. The yellow bus has been an iconic part of our cities for over 100 years. It is therefore not surprising that the recent announcement that they will cease operations today has had a considerable impact on the local communities of the BCP region.

“We are continuing our efforts to support the industry, with advice and information, as we have always done, and we will work together to find a longer term solution for the benefit of bus users.

“I would like to reassure bus users that we are doing everything we can to minimize disruption, and we will prioritize our existing school bus services in this process. We will be sharing further information and updates on bus transportation as soon as possible over the next few weeks.
