SODELPA chief Viliame Gavoka said the FBC News article “SODELPA chief backs budget” published on Saturday was misleading and selective while FBC backs the story.

He said he would like to clarify and reiterate that as party leader as well as SODELPA did not support the 2021-2022 national budget.

Gavoka says it is unfortunate that various media do not exercise due diligence in publishing articles, especially on issues of critical importance that impact the nation.

Gavoka says what he told FBC was that the opposition advocated for demand to be created for the economy to pick up.

He says it’s about putting money in people’s hands, not through donations, but by putting money into economic programs that can help people engage in economic activities. .

Gavoka says that saying he supports the budget goes a bit too far.

He says SODELPA will be reviewing in detail what the 2021-2022 budget means for Fiji next week.

Gavoka says they will be asking many questions that will need to be asked and answered in the next budget debate.

In response to the statement from the head of SODELPA, the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation said it was sticking to the story and only reported what was said by Viliame Gavoka.
