Fox News Media Goes Into Christmas Movie Game – The Hollywood Reporter
Christmas movies are big business. Just ask Hallmark Channel, Netflix, or Lifetime, all of which have invested heavily in lightweight seasonal rates.
Now, another player is looking to step into the increasingly crowded space: Fox News Media will release its first original Christmas movie this year on its streaming service Fox Nation, Hollywood journalist has learned.
The film, Christmas in the Rockies, is produced by Brain Power Studio in association with INSP Films and Fox Nation. The film follows protagonist Katie Jolly, who longs to leave her small town for a career in New York City, but ends up taking over the family lumber business after a parent gets injured. There is also a love interest and a story involving a lumberjack competition (the the trailer is here).
Fox and his friends Co-hosts Steve Doocy and Ainsley Earhardt each make cameos in the film, which will be exclusive to the Fox-owned platform until November 2021. Fox Nation has also acquired the rights to two other holiday films: Christmas on the coast and Christmas on the beach.
The films come as Fox Nation continues to expand further into original entertainment and documentary programming, moving away from the commentary-rich lineup it had when it launched in late 2018. The company is betting its approach to the genre Basic will help generate subscriptions for the holidays. .
