‘Encanto’ reaches number 1 on the Nielsen streaming chart

Nielsen has now released its weekly streaming chart for January 10-16, and “Encanto” has reached number 1 with 1.488 billion total minutes watched.

“Encanto” has proven to be one of Disney’s most popular films to date. It was nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and “We’re Not Talking About Bruno” recently topped the Billboard Hot 100.

“Encanto” was released on Disney+ on December 24, 2021, so it was only a few weeks after its streaming release. About 38% of viewers were between 2 and 11 years old.

Ever since Nielsen started compiling the charts in 2020, it’s been rare for non-Netflix titles to top the charts. Nielsen only measures streaming through a TV screen, so mobile streaming is not counted.

Here is the list of the top 10 from January 10 to 16:

  1. Encanto (Disney+) – movie, 1.488 billion minutes watched
  2. Cobra Kai (Netflix) – 40 episodes, 1.038B min.
  3. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (Prime Video) – movie, 823M min.
  4. NCIS (Netflix) – 354 eps, 711M min.
  5. Cocomelon (Netflix) – 15 eps., 707M min.
  6. Criminal Minds (Netflix) – 320 eps., 687M min.
  7. Bravo (Netflix) – 15 eps, 629M min.
  8. The Witcher (Netflix) – 16 eps, 624M min.
  9. Stay Close (Netflix) – 8 eps., 558M min.
  10. Brazen (Netflix) – movie, 531M min.

“The Mandalorian” was the first Disney+ show to break into Nielsen’s top 10 in November 2020.
