“Chaffee Patriots” Plan News Media Panel for June Meeting – by Ark Valley Voice Staff

The Chaffee Patriots group has scheduled a town hall at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 10 in the Parish Hall of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, located at 118 South Gunnison Avenue, Buena Vista. This month’s topic will be “Journalism Today” with a news panel including Ark Valley Voice. This is a continuation of what the Chaffee Patriot group calls community education programs.

The Journalism Today panel includes; Jan Wondra Ark Valley Voice; Reba Jackson, Buena Vista HS teacher; Radio host Dan R. Heart of Rockies; John Emmerling, The Fremont County Crusader, and Paul Klee, The Colorado Springs Gazette.

Opening questions provided to speakers:

  • Two-minute presentations of speakers, media and mission statement
  • According to an October 2021 Gallup poll, only 36% of Americans trust the media. Why do you think that is?
  • We live in a 24-hour, technology-driven news cycle. Is it good or bad?
  • How to find the truth in the age of misinformation?
  • Is freedom of expression at the heart of democracy?
  • What is the future of news media?

According to the Chaffee Patriots, the public will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The Chaffee County Patriots describe themselves as “non-partisan and welcome all like-minded people who love, support and believe in the very ethics and moral principles by which our country was founded”.
